A Peek At The Shubert Archive: Sarah Bernhardt, Cary Grant Goodies

Last week, as a member of the American Theatre Critics Association, I joined a group for a private tour of the Shubert Archives in New York at the upper offices of the Lyceum Theatre. It was an especially personal visit for me because when I was in college I received a Shubert Fellowship in playwriting which allowed me to go to graduate school and gave me great credit as I started my career in arts journalism.

The archive rooms were fascinating, filled with art and ephemera. My fave items were a telegram from Sarah Bernhardt, a handwritten letter from Cary Grant and gorgeous costume designs from another era. He's some of what I saw.
