Longtime Goodspeed Pros Leaving

Two longtime veterans of Goodspeed Musicals will be leaving the producing organization based in East Haddam, CT: R. Glen Grusmark and Bob Alwine.

Both men have been integral figures at Goodspeed Musicals, whose operations included production at Goodspeed Opera House in East Haddam and the Normal Terris Theatre in Chester and a large range of other activities, workshops, retreats and festivals.

Grusmark will become general manager at the Hanover Theatre for the Performing Arts in Worcester, Mass.

Grusmark, a graduate of the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, has been with the musical organization as production manager for 25 years. He began his tenure at Goodspeed in 1989 as a carpenter for "Oh, Kay!."

Alwine, 70, has been with the organization for 15 years. He will relocate to New York, where he will continue to do consulting work and other projects. He is also a Tony Awards voter.

Alwine established Goodspeed's national touring initative featuring productions of "Pippin" and "The Boy Friend "directed by Julie Andrews. Before joining Goodspeed, he worked as the associate managing director of The Old Globe in San Diego and as the director of Programming for The Ordway Center in St. Paul, Minnesota.

While at the Globe he developed the national tour of "Stones in His Pockets" and at the Ordway he was the associate producer of the national tour of "Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story."

Alwine holds an MFA in theater management and creative producing from Columbia University and was the recipient of a national endowment for the Arts Award in commercial musical theater producing.

Grusmark  became active in technical theatre while attending high school in central Vermont.  Previous to Goodspeed, Grusmark has worked Wirth the Brunswick Music Theatre, Blowing Rock Stage Company, Adirondack Scenic Studios Inc., and North Carolina Dance Theatre.

In addition to Goodspeed’s two stages, Glen has overseen technical management of "By Jeeves! " on Broadway, as well as several transfers, construction and installation work on Goodspeed’s behalf, including Variety Arts Theatre, New World Stages and The Ford’s Theatre .

Michael Gennaro took over as executive director of Goodspeed Musicals two years ago, succeeding longtime head Michael Price.
