Amy Schumer To Star in Broadway's 'Meteor Shower'
It's not the first time a show that was nurtured at a Connecticut moves on to New York with a new cast. It's not even the first time this week.
Amy Schumer will star in the Broadway production of Steve Martin's "Meteor Shower, which had its co-premiere at Long Wharf Theatre with the Old Globe in San Diego last fall, staged by the theater's artistic director Gordon Edelstein. The director had previously staged two well-received productions of Martin's "The Underpants" and "Picasso at Lapin Agile.".
Now comes the news the play will open on Broadway, not only with Schumer but Keegan-Michael Key, Laura Benanti and Alan Tudyk . The show begins previews Nov. 1 at the Booth Theatre. Jerry Zaks, who staged the current revival of "Hello, Dolly!", will direct. The show opens Nov. 29.
The Broadway design team includes Tony Award-winner Beowulf Borritt (Scenic Design), Tony and Academy Award-winner Ann Roth (Costume Design), six-time Tony Award-winner Natasha Katz (Lighting Design), and two-time Drama Desk Award-winner Fitz Patton (Sound Design)
Earlier this week it was announced that Carrie Coon, who stars in TV's “Fargo” and the HBO series which just concluded, "The Leftovers,” will star in Amy Herzog's “Mary Jane,” at New York Theater Workshop in the fall. The show had its world premiere at New Haven's Yale Repertory Theatre in May with a completely different cast. The same director, Anne Kauffman, will still be with the production
“Mary Jane” starts previews off-Broadway Sept. 6 and opens Sept. 25.
