Lin Manuel Miranda was the 2018 recipient of the Monte Cristo Award at the April gala for the Eugene O'Neill Theater Center in Waterford, held in New York.

Miranda received an important career step when he worked on his fledgling musical "In the Heights" as part of the Music Theater Conference. The show later moved onto off-Broadway, then Broadway where it won the Tony Award for outstanding musical and a Tony for Miranda as composer. The show was also a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize.
