Jerry Adler Dead at 96.: A Witness to Theater History and A Late-In-Life Actor

Very sad news about the death of Jerry Adler, 96, reported by The Hollywood Reporter.

I wrote about Jerry many times as an actor, an author, and as a leading figure in theater history. (He was the stage manager for the legendary premiere of “My Fair Lady” in 1956 at the Shubert Theatre in New Haven.)

For his memoir, I wrote this piece:. MEMOIR

I wrote another story when he moved from Connecticut back to Manhattan, MOVE

Another profile I wrote from his Connecticut home was filled with anecdotes. ANECDOTES

For the New York Times Arts & Leisure section, I wrote about the legendary opening of “My Fairy Lady.”

And another piece for Encore magazione for theater greats in their 90s.

I also wrote several more stories for The Hartford Courant on how when he appeared in Connecticut in several plays by Mike Reiss (including my Variety review “I’m Connecticut.”)

He will be missed. I will miss him, too.
